A Las Vegas woman is accused of killing her 68-year-old former roommate by forcing her to consume fentanyl, then hiding her body in a freezer, according to prosecutors.
Daniel Roush, who also goes by Jazzlynn and identifies as a transgender woman, allegedly killed Monique Gilbertson in November 2024 to “take over her life,” said Clark County Deputy District Attorney James Puccinelli. Gilbertson, who had allowed Roush to live with her temporarily to help him get back on his feet, had reportedly kicked him out before the incident. Authorities say Roush gave Gilbertson a lethal dose of fentanyl, leading to her death.
Police were called to Gilbertson’s mobile home on November 6 for a welfare check after her property manager noticed unusual activity, such as her car being parked differently and her dogs barking loudly.
When officers entered the home, they found Gilbertson’s body folded inside a freezer. Roush and another person in the home were detained.
Prosecutors allege Roush kept Gilbertson’s body in the freezer for about two weeks before being discovered. Roush told police she found Gilbertson dead after she took drugs and claimed she put the body in the freezer because she didn’t know what else to do.
Evidence presented by prosecutors includes text messages, witness statements, and drug tests. Roush’s wife told police she saw Roush give Gilbertson drugs, believed to be fentanyl-laced cocaine.
A powder found in the home tested positive for fentanyl and lidocaine. Toxicology reports showed Gilbertson had 400 nanograms of fentanyl in her system—200 times the lethal amount.
Roush remains in custody as the investigation continues.
