They said several horses were “severely malnourished” and had “limited access to food or water.” Four horses and a bull were so sick they had to be put down.
Oakdale Animal Rescue said on Facebook that they rescued over 60 horses. Vets are still treating animals at the property. The rescue group has found temporary homes for the horses and has asked for donations to help pay for their care, including vet bills, hoof trimming, food, and other needs.
Johnson was arrested and taken to the San Joaquin County Jail. Records show she was released on the same day, January 22nd. A local news station, KOVR, reported that Johnson also had outstanding arrest warrants for threatening a school, its employees, and police officers.
She was charged with making criminal threats in addition to the animal cruelty charges. She is expected in court on January 24th.
