According to inmate records, Collins has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree.
Citing an arrest affidavit from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Miami Herald reported that Collins’ ex-boyfriend told police he had broken up with her just days prior.
Collins’ ex-boyfriend told authorities he was in an intimate relationship with the shooting victim, First Coast News reported.
Family members identified 42-year-old Latasha Taylor as the victim to Action News Jax.
On the day of the incident, Collins allegedly called and texted her ex’s phone repeatedly for him to come and pick up his things from her home, however, he instructed her to throw them away instead, the Miami Herald reports.
The ex-boyfriend had allegedly been driving Taylor’s car on Saturday, Feb. 15 when Collins began calling him again. Instead of answering, he reportedly stopped at a liquor store with Taylor and some of her family members before they made their way to another location.

As the group was driving in separate cars, Collins reportedly caught up to her ex at a red light and pulled her vehicle in front of Taylor’s.
The ex allegedly backed up and drove around Collins’ car, however, she was able to catch up to them once again at another stoplight, the Herald reported, citing police.
Collins allegedly exited her vehicle and started knocking on Taylor’s car window, prompting Taylor to ask Collins who she was. A verbal confrontation followed.
Collins’ ex told police he heard a “loud noise” before Taylor fell to the ground. A .380 caliber shell was recovered from the scene, per the Herald.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The victim’s husband, Tony Taylor, also spoke to Action News Jax, saying the couple were preparing to spend their 15th anniversary together before Latasha was shot in the head.
“She met me when I was going through a tough time in my life. She showed me how much she cares about people. I was at rock bottom, and she saved my life,” Tony said in an interview.
“The shooter was arguing with a male that was in the car. My wife got out to try to diffuse the situation and just leave and that’s when the girl shot her,” Tony continued.
Latasha’s family said she is making progress.
“She wasn’t supposed to make it past Saturday, but she’s still holding on for us,” Tony told the news station.
Collins is awaiting trial and is due at the Duval County Courthouse on March 11.
